About ratings
Every story on brightTV shows an Australian classification mark and a short note about what is in it. This page explains what they mean.
Draft of 2 October 2026
Draft for legal review. Not yet in force.
Words in [square brackets] are still to be filled in.
G: General
Suitable for everyone. Anything in it that might upset people is very mild.
PG: Parental guidance recommended
Some scenes may upset some people, or may need explaining to children. For example, a sad or tense moment, a mild argument, or a mild swear word. Nothing is strong or detailed.
We show only G and PG
brightTV does not show stories rated M, MA 15 plus or higher.
The short note
Next to the mark is a short note, such as "Mild themes" or "Mild coarse language". It tells you the main things in the story that led to its rating, so you can decide before you start.
You find the mark and the note on each story's page and in "See everything".
Who rates our stories
In Australia, films and series are rated under the National Classification Scheme. Our stories are rated by [Name or role of the person who rates our stories], using the official Australian classification guidelines, before they go on brightTV.
For every story we keep a record of the rating, the short note, the reasons for it, who on our team made the decision and the date they made it. If a rating is changed, the record shows the new decision. We keep the person's name to ourselves.
What the guidelines look at
Six things: themes, violence, sex, language, drug use and nudity. The rating depends on how strong each one is and how much it affects the story.
Exercise classes
Our exercise classes are instructions for gentle movement at home. They do not carry a rating mark.
