Advertising and sponsorship
brightTV is free because businesses pay to show you ads, and because your catalogue shows you some of its products here. This page explains how that works.
Draft of 2 October 2026
Draft for legal review. Not yet in force.
Words in [square brackets] are still to be filled in.
What "Sponsored" means
Anything marked "Sponsored" is an ad, or a product from your catalogue. A business paid for it to be there, or it comes from the catalogue business that brings you brightTV. It is not a recommendation from us.
You may see them on the home page, on the page of a class or story, and under the video when it ends.
We do not sell your personal information
Advertisers never get your name or phone number unless you ask them to call you (see below). They never get what you watch.
They get only totals, such as how many people saw their ad and how many pressed it. Any group of fewer than 50 people is left out.
How we choose which ads to show you
We may use your age group and your state if you told us, the kind of device you use, the time of day, and whether you watch more classes or more stories. We never use anything about your health, and we never guess it. We do not let other companies track you on brightTV.
"Ask them to call me"
Some ads have a button that says "Ask them to call me". If you fill it in and tick the box, we send your name, phone number and best time to call to that one business, so they can call you. The box is never ticked for you, and you tick it each time.
If you change your mind, call us. We won't send your details again, but the business keeps what it already has. Ask the business to delete it.
Ads with their own phone number
Some ads show a phone number that belongs to us and goes straight through to the business. This lets us count calls. We keep the time and length of the call and a scrambled code made from your number, never the number itself. Nobody records what is said.
Which ads we accept
A person checks every advertiser and every ad before it appears. Ads must not say that a product cures, treats or prevents any illness.
We do not accept ads for:
- gambling
- payday loans, reverse mortgages and other high-cost credit
- investments, trading schemes and cryptocurrency
- medicines that need a prescription
- health products that are not listed or registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration
- weight-loss or anti-ageing products that promise quick results
- political parties or causes
- adult content, dating or alcohol
Funeral plans that you pay for in advance get an extra check before we accept them.
